Style across the globe: Geisha look

Like every country in the world,  both Japan and China have something unique that inspires the fashion industry… Geishas…

Geishas are girls trained from the early age in conversation, singing, dancing so that they become men’s escorts  during social events. There are certain rules to the Geisha look:

Make-up

Geisha uses a white powder mixed with water (consistence of a paste), which is often applied in several layers to their face, neck and chest. It is important to leave a line of the skin around the headline to give a mask-like look. The eyebrows are highlighted with a black pencil, the eye lid with the red eye shadow and red eyeliner, and finally lips touched with a vivid red lipstick:

Shoes

Back in the days, Geishas were forced to wear tiny shoes.  In China, the size of feet indicated the royal position: the smaller the feet, the higher the position… Also, small feet apparently were considered more attractive…  The feet of young girls were tightly wrapped to prevent the foot to grow. This practice is called Foot bindingIt was painful, led to foot deformation and even disabilities, but it was a common practice when the girl was being brought up to becoming a LADY. Other girls with normal-sized feet were considered field-workers or servants….

For centuries, women were being forced to wear certain pieces of clothing that were considered sexy or appropriate. They had to suffer the pain and discomfort, but were determined and strong enough to do and wear whatever was necessary.

And even today when we look around, it still seems as if you those fashion regulations are still there. In certain regions of the world women have to cover certain parts of their bodies, while in others they are required to reveal certain parts. All that to comply to the fashion and beauty standards.

What is considered appropriate where, differs as much as the cultures…which sometimes really makes it hard to be fashionable and stylish. Take that into account while travelling…

Luckily today, us,  women, we have more power and freedom to decide over our fashion choices, so “Bring it on Ladies! You don’t have to follow everything that’s out there! Define yourself and your style!

Braid them!

online shopping heaven

As it’s all about shoes today, here’s a personal tip from us. Especially after work it can be annoying to go shoe shopping, no time and crowded stores. So why not buy them online? It’s easy and quick, there is a lot of variety and you can find great offers. So here are our favourite online shops for affordable shoes:

Asos.com

Asos (short for: as seen on screen) is a classic, but we still love it. They have so many inspirations and beautiful shoes (and clothes as well, fabulous). You can also look at outfits and styles that others put together, or do it yourself in order to inspire others.  And they have a marketplace where you can acquire vintage shoes. Asos has a website in several languages and the delivery and return of products is free of charge.

 Chicchickclub.de

The ChicChickClub is so far only available in German, but for those who can read it, they have a great concept! Members have to fill out a test in the beginning and will then get customized suggestions for shoes each month. These shoes are selected by professional stylists. The advantage of the site: You are not overloaded with shoes but only get a selected assortment to choose from.

Nelly.com

Nelly is also a great website, an absolute must-go. A great offer of trendy shoes, that will ensure a great style. Also available in many countries. We love it!

You can never take too much care over the choice of your shoes. Too many women think that they are unimportant, but the real proof of an elegant woman is what is on her feet.

Watch out for those heels…

Hello everyone, today we will be talking about high hesls. Thanks to ”Sex and the City” fashion icon Carry Bradshaw, we all know Jimmy Choo, Manolo Blahnik, Alexander McQueen, Christian Louboutin and all the others. And seriously, who of you has not at least once(!) dreamed of opening your closet and facing the decision which of those brand names to put on your feet for the day?

Of course, for many of us this will stay a dream forever, which “Thank God” does not mean that we can not wear fabulous heels anywayl! There are also some hot pairs available in a more reasonable price range.

So here we have collected a few examples from the Spring and Summer Collections 2013…bright colors, metallic looks and ankle ties will be in-style:

Charlotte Olympia Pumps

Missoni Metallic Wedges Ankle Ties Gucci Ankle-Strap Sandal

Jimmy Choo

But here comes another issue I would like to quickly address…unfortunately not everyone of us is comfortable with walking in heels, which often results in (1) hurting feet and knees (2) blisters and (3) a NOT at all sexy look! Therefore I would like to share the following tricks with you on how to improve your skills:

1. Start with lower heels and work your way up, once you are comfortable in 2-3 inch heels, you can increase those inches.

2. When you walk in heels, slightly put your shoulders back and straighten up as if you were a puppet on a string, activate your core muscles to support your walk…this will help you to balance and not to lean backwards or forwards.

3. Even though you are walking in heels, you can and should still bend your knees while walking, otherwise you will look like a robot.

4. In order to achieve that confident look you strives for, you should try walking on an imaginary line, so that your hips get into slight ”rock-ing” movement…

Now all you need to do is PUT ON THOSE HEELS and PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE…

(P.S.: For burning feet there is some help…shoe cushions….you should really take a look!)
